The San Dieguito Heritage Museum was founded in 1988 to collect, preserve and interpret the local history of the San Dieguito river area, which includes the communities of Leucadia, Encinitas, Olivenhain, Cardiff, Solana Beach, Del Mar, and Rancho Santa Fe.
The founders had deep roots in the local communities and cherished the uniqueness of the history in the area.

The San Dieguito Heritage Museum now offers free history activities for families 
on Saturdays and Sundays, throughout the 2011-2012 school year. There will be all kinds of hands-on activities. For the month of January, the Museum presents the history of the Braided Rug.. . .

What a weekend it was! The Museum celebrated San Dieguito history with its 23rd Annual BBQ Weekend on May 20th and 21st.
Three amazing events took place: a poetry slam, an old time BBQ and a concert with world-class guitar masters . . .
Did you know that the museum has expanded its business hours. they are now Thursday through Sunday, from 12 noon to 4pm.
